Google Search Console

Google search console

Google search console is a free tool provided by google to do SEO. Previously it was known as Google Webmaster Tools. We can verify our ownership with this tool. This tool is also called a mock point as it acts as a platform for Google to advice webmasters to optimize their websites and it helps the webmasters to check indexing status and errors. There are still chances to crawl, index and rank the websites that haven't used search console, but when we use search console we can do SEO in a controlled way.

Benefits of using Google Search Console are as follows

1. We can add country setting, if we are doing SEO targeting audience of a  particular country.

3. Through what all keywords our website is ranked
4. Count of impressions we are getting
5. It notifies you if there are any issues with your site like browser compatibility issues, crawl errors, broken links, defective contents., defects in adding hyperlinks.

Steps to verify your website in Google Search Console

Sitemap

sitemap

Sitemap.xml is a XML document that we submit in google as a part of SEO. Sitemap contains all the URLs in our site, last modified date of the page, change frequency and priority of a page.  In a website  highest priority page is its home page. Google can easily crawl this file compared to other html document. The file size capacity of a sitemap is 10mb. The maximum number of URLs a sitemap can include is 50,000. Google can crawl a sitemap even if it is a zip file.

Search Console Verification Methods

There are 5 methods to verify the ownership of a website in search console

1. HTML File Verification Method

This is the most recommended method by google. In this method, we download the HTML File given by google and upload this in the root directory of the website. Click on the verify button and verification is done.

2. HTML Meta Tag Method

In this method a HTML meta tag given by google is copied and pasted into the head section of the website.

3. Google Analytics Method

It is a important tool given by google to know all about the visitors of the website like the number of times visited, nature of the visit, browser used, location of visitor (country, city, etc), the time they spend on the site, which all pages were visited, from which webpage they navigated to a particular webpage, device used, network details, network traffic details etc. Verification is done using the analytics tracking code.

4. Google Tag Manager Method

Google tag manager is another tool provided by google to add tags/tracking code for the verification and tracking purpose of websites.  Tag Managers are JavaScript codes that can be pasted at head and body section. Thus we can include all the changes and modifications even without knowing the coding details.

5. DNS Data Record

Purchase a domain name from domain name providers like godaddy.com or any other hosting site. Copy the text  provided by the search console to the DNS data entry option. Then click verify button. Verification  is completed.
