What is On Page Optimization?
On Page Optimization refers to all the measures we take to make our page accessible to web crawlers. Whatever we do more than a limit, there are chances to get suspended or blacklist by google. It is mainly focused to improve the quality of the website. On-Page SEO considers each and every aspects in your website and are optimized to make it both bot and user friendly.
First, google crawl the URL address of our website. Google gets a hint about the business from the URL but will not finalize it. Then google goes to the head section of the website and checks the title and description. Later the h1, contents and images are viewed. Now the complete picture of the page is received to Google and it starts crawling the page and caches the data to data base.
Now, what is a snippet? Snippet is the portion where a webpage is listed in the google search result. If the search result is shown in a laptop/desktop, a basic snippet contains a URL, title, description. If opened in mobile device favicon is also showed. In an advanced snippet may contain star rating, search box, subpage links, thumbnails and events.
On Page Optimization Methods
Title Optimization
Spelling or grammatical mistake should not be there in the SEO title. It should not full capital or small letters. Number of characters are limited to 55 to 60 . Google search box pixel width is 512px. If it exceeds 512px width, dots are shown. Title should be unique for each page and it must contain focusing keywords. Keyword Cannibalism may happen if two pages has same keyword.
Meta Description Optimization
Meta Tag is very important in SEO On page optimization. In case of webpages, the meta tag description can be up to a limit of 155-160 characters but when it comes to post like article or blog the character limit gets reduced to 155 characters. The reason is the post being time relevant comes with a date in the beginning which itself contribute some characters.. Meta description pixel width is 1024px. When we optimize a page for the first time, it is good to add focusing keyword in meta description. If we vomit meta description in the page, it takes the h1 or h2 tag titles as the meta description. Otherwise it takes any content from body. If a website is listed in open directory project, description is taken from that site when meta description is absent. Sometimes google takes even html code from a website when there is no content available in the page. Meta description should be unique to each page just like page title. There should not be grammatical /spelling mistake. meta description can be a sentence from a content from the same page.
Anchor Text Optimization
Anchor text refers to the clickable words used to link one web page to another. Most visible part in a content section is anchor text. Anchor text acts as a fuel to boost the crawling process. It helps to increase the user interaction which in turn decrease the bounce rate. But over usage of anchor text results in passing the equity.
Body Section Optimization
The most important part of body section is h1 tag. It clearly identifies our webpage and it should be relevant to the content. Only one h1 tag should be there in a single web page. It should be impressive without any spelling errors or grammar mistakes. If h1 tag is present more than once, it will be confusing for the bots. In such cases google stores this page in a temporary database called Sand Box. This will negatively affect the website. If we make some words bold in the content which is arranged as paragraphs can make easy for the audience to understand. Also keyword coming before comma / full stop is good.
Image Optimization
Image consists of image name, alt tag and a title. Name of the image should be without space and hyphens are used separate words. Alt tags or alt attributes are “alternative text “ for an image. Alt tags help to describe the image and what the image is representing. When images are accompanied by well-written alt tags they help visually impaired users who use screen readers to understand the images.
Keyword Optimization
Keyword density refers to the number of occurrence of a keyword in respect to the total words in a published page or the percentage of the overall word count. According to Google, the keyword density is not considered a factor in ranking. But it is good to have keywords appears one or two times in the content. If not it will affect the ranking. Keyword should occur naturally. Also google can understand even the synonyms of keyword.
